VIX
The "fear index". It shows how much uncertainty is in the market. High VIX = more fear.
Explanation
S&P 500 implied-volatility index from 30-day options. VIX < 15 = calm, 15-25 = normal, > 25 = high volatility.
Technical detail
VIX classifies stress at 35/45/60/70. The VIX Shield cash overlay only activates in panic: VIX >= 60.
